Hollywood actor Bruce Willis was in Malta for three nights on holiday, staying at The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux, in Mdina, where he spent most of his time on the hotel premises, relaxing on the terrace and walking around Mdina.

Sources said he was accompanied by a woman and left yesterday morning.

The actor described his stay as being exactly what he wanted because he was not hassled by anyone, the sources said, adding that he is likely to return.

The German-born, New Jersey-raised, US actor and musician is renowned for his film appearances as wise-cracking, or hard-edged characters, often in spectacular action films. Collectively, he has appeared in movies that have grossed in excess of $2.5 billion, placing him among the top 10 stars in terms of box-office receipts.

Among his most popular movies are the action film Die Hard (1988) and its sequel Die Hard 2 (1990). Excellent box-office returns demanded a further sequel Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995).

Bruce Willis appeared as a cagey prize fighter in the Quentin Tarantino directed mega-hit Pulp Fiction (1994), the Terry Gilliam directed apocalyptic thriller Twelve Monkeys (1995), Luc Besson's sci-fi opus The Fifth Element (1997) and the M. Night Shyamalan directed spine-tingling epic The Sixth Sense (1999).

He was married to actress Demi Moore for about 13 years.
