Australia's two-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Diamond qualified for his fifth Games yesterday. The 35-year-old booked his place when he won the men's individual trap qualifying event in Sydney.

Diamond, gold medallist in Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney four years later, said he was shooting as well as ever and was relishing the chance of gunning for another Olympic title.

"I am going to go there with lots of hunger and I would really like to win a third Olympic Gold medal," he said.

"A lot of people would like to say they have been to one and I'm a very lucky person."

Diamond missed his chance to become the first shooter to win gold at three successive Olympics when he failed to reach the final in 2004.

He considered his participation in Beijing to be a victory in itself after a long legal battle relating to charges of assault and firearm offences.
