Anthony Zammit, the surgeon who operated on Alfred Sant at the end of December, has been elected to Parliament from the 7th district.

This was the second time that Prof Zammit (picture) had stood for election.

Another newcomer to the House will be Labour candidate Marlene Pullicino, elected from the fifth district. Ms Pullicino was once a PN candidate.

Defeated on Saturday was the Labour Home Affairs spokesman and former Justice Minister Gavin Gulia, who has been eliminated from the two districts he contested.
