George Vella first to be elected from third district

Former MLP deputy leader George Vella has become the first candidate to be elected from the third district.

He was elected from the fifth count. In the 2003 election he was elected from the first count with 6,497 first count votes compared to the 3,748 he won on Saturday.

Meanwhile vote-counting is proceeding at a slow pace, with the nine district still on its second count.
