On February 24, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech conferred the lectorate ministry on four seminarians who are in their fifth year at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Victoria. The ceremony took place at Għarb Basilica.
The four are Francesco Pio Attard and Simon M. Cachia, from St George's parish, Victoria, Noel Debono of Nadur and Maximillian Grech from the Cathedral parish, who will now be official readers at Mass.
Mgr Grech concelebrated Mass with around 20 priests from different parishes. In his homily he said that unlike the Samaritan woman of the Gospel, who quenched her spiritual thirst by listening to the Word of the Son of God, many today seek an answer for their problems elsewhere. Only Jesus Christ can give us solace, Mgr Grech insisted.
He urged the new lectors to make theirs the Saviour's mission as the true well of life-giving water.
