The University Pantheon Sorbonne (Paris 1) has appointed David J. Attard, head of University of Malta's Department of International Law, as a visiting professor to lecture its international law Master's students on the international legal regime regulating the exploration and exploitation of non-living marine resources.

In particular, Prof. Attard will focus on coastal states' sovereign rights to explore oil and gas resources found in the continental shelf. He has written extensively on the subject including his book The Exclusive Economic Zone in International Law for which he won the Guggenheim Prize for International Law.
