I refer to the publication of the judicial protest by Naged Megally (March 5).

His allegation that his specialist status is mainly being refused on the grounds of any disability is absolutely unfounded and not the case.

In like manner the contents of the letter by Jackie Nicolosi (March 7) deploring the refusal of specialist status to Dr Megally.

While sympathising with the physical disability of Dr Megally, the facts are as follows:

Medical practitioners applying for specialist status have to meet specific criteria for accreditation as a specialist in a particular medical specialty.

However, Dr Megally's application for obstetrics and gynaecology does not meet these criteria.
