Malta International Airport has reported an 18 per cent rise in passenger movements last month, bringing the growth over the past two months to an average of 20.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Passenger movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights in February totalled 155,675, an increase of 23,888 over February 2007.

Aircraft movements, cargo and mail figures registered an increase of 11.8 per cent and 24.7 per cent respectively.

Passenger traffic from the main UK market remained stable with an increase of 3.6 per cent. However, MIA saw significant increases of up to 44.8 per cent from the German market, almost 30 per cent from the United Arab Emirates and 19.8 per cent in the Italian market. The busiest days in February in terms of passengers were the 23rd, with 7,210 movements, and February 2 when the airport handled 65 aircraft in one day.
