A Bulgarian woman was yesterday given a two-year jail term suspended for four years after she admitted to stealing a briefcase and a wallet.
Mariana Mihova, 25, pleaded guilty to stealing a briefcase which contained €265 (Lm113.75) in cash and other items. The briefcase was stolen from a customer inside the Tower supermarket in Sliema last Friday at 7.45 p.m.
Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard Ms Mihova also confess to stealing a wallet on Tuesday afternoon from the same establishment.
Ms Mihova had returned the wallet but could only offer €70 (Lm30.04) to the victim of the stolen briefcase, because she had no more money left and was due to fly home this morning. Before handing down judgment Magistrate Mizzi told Ms Mihova to forget about Malta.
Police Inspector Anne Marie Micallef prosecuted.
Lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores appeared as legal aid to Ms Mihova.
