The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU yesterday filed a judicial protest against the Chief Electoral Commissioner after shops within the vicinity of polling stations were ordered not to open on Election Day, this Saturday.

Any bars, shops or public establishments within 50 metres of polling stations were told not to open on polling day. The GRTU said this preventative measure is an incorrect judgment of the political climate in Malta where calm prevails during an election.

It is holding the Chief Electoral Commissioner responsible for any losses incurred on the day.
