I know some people intend not voting next Saturday as a protest vote. However, I urge them to think very carefully before doing so.

They may as well vote for Alfred Sant because it can amount to exactly the same thing as I will demonstrate.

Let us assume the electorate is made up of 10 voters. Five vote PN and five vote Labour.

Five out of 10 is 50 per cent and so nobody has a majority.

Now let us assume that one of the PN voters decides not to vote.

Therefore his/her vote will not even be considered. This reduces the total number of votes to nine which would give Labour a total of five votes out of nine, an absolute majority. End of story. Not voting would be exactly the same as voting for Dr Sant. This is simple maths.

I urge everybody not to cut off their nose to spite their face, not to mention our children's face.
