Everton's Nigeria striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni believes the Premier League side have enough quality to reach the UEFA Cup final.

"To play in Europe and to have not been beaten yet, and the fact that we have quality players, means that we can get in the final," he told the club's website.

"If we keep believing in ourselves and say that we want to be in the final, then I believe we can do it."

Everton face Serie A side Fiorentina in the first leg of their last-16 tie in Florence tomorrow.

Tevez the new Cantona - Ferguson

Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez is the present day equivalent of Old Trafford legend Eric Cantona, according to United manager Alex Ferguson.

Tevez has shown some of the goal-scoring characteristics of Frenchman Cantona.

"Carlos reminds me of Eric Cantona in the way that he has a knack of rising to the occasion with a goal just when it's needed," Ferguson said.

"He often comes up with the goods away from home when you are up against it. I don't think anything fazes him and he keeps his cool in the box."

Lampard red card rescinded

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has escaped a three-match ban after the English Football Association upheld an appeal against his red card in Saturday's 4-0 win over West Ham United.

Lampard was sent off for violent conduct after a seemingly innocuous exchange of shoves with West Ham's Luis Boa Morte.

"At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Chelsea's Frank Lampard was upheld," the FA said in a statement.

Spurs linked with Espanyol keeper

Tottenham have opened talks with Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni, reports in Spain said. The Cameroon goalkeeper is being watched by a host of clubs and it is said he wants a move elsewhere.

Assistant coach Gus Poyet has already confirmed Tottenham are interested in Kameni and now reports in Catalunya say the north London club have made their move.

The news comes after Manchester United watched Espanyol at the weekend, with Kameni the reported target for their chief scout Martin Ferguson.

New contract for Ronaldo

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has hinted Ronaldo will be offered a new contract if the 31-year-old Brazilian shows the will to return to playing following a serious knee injury that could sideline him for at least nine months.

"I think Ronaldo will stay with us. If he still wants to be a big player, he can be that. I think and hope he wants to come back and Milan will be very happy to have him with us," Berlusconi told Sky.

Ronaldo's deal expires in June.

Santa Cruz sets 20-goal target

Roque Santa Cruz thinks he can break the 20-goal barrier in next season's English Premier League. The Blackburn forward has struck 11 times in the league and 15 in all competitions since arriving from Bayern Munich last summer.

"Personally I want to achieve 20 goals next season," Santa Cruz said.

"I have chances to score in every game I play and not to score them is, of course, a little disappointing."

Moggi to opt for politics?

Former Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has been linked with a move into politics. In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Moggi responded to speculation that he was about to stand as a candidate for Pier Ferdinando Casini's Christian Democratic Party.

Disgraced after his involvement in the soccer scandal, Moggi claimed that "many people would be frightened and completely terrified" by the prospect of him in government.

The 70-year-old said: "If I were to enter politics 75 per cent of Juventini would vote for me."

Death threats for Collina

Italian refereeing designator Pierluigi Collina has received more threatening mail after a bullet was sent to his Viareggio home. A report yesterday claimed that Collina received the object last week.

The legendary official was placed under a police escort in December 2007 after a series of threatening letters were sent to his address.

Collina was in the stands on Sunday for Sampdoria-Torino and was verbally abused by fans after Antonio Cassano's sending off.

Newcastle tracking Torosidis

Newcastle are looking at highly-rated Greek international Vasilis Torosidis. The Magpies dispatched one of their scouts to watch Olympiakos in action at the weekend and it is understood Torosidis was their target.

The 22-year-old is a right-back and rated as one of the best young players in Greece. He is already an established member of the Greek national side with ten caps to his name.
