The council of the Institute of Maltese Journalists expressed concern at how journalists are being treated during the electoral campaign and appealed for calm to allow the media to do its work without any hindrance or threats.

In a statement the institute said there was mutual lack of respect between journalists and politicians and complained of cases where journalists were prevented from leaving political activities.

It appealed to media owners to give everyone the space to put across their message to help the electorate take their decision in an informed and calm manner, and to contributors to avoid language and graphics which can create tension.
