Azzjoni Nazzjonali said today it was still awaiting replies from the larger parties to questions it had repeated throughout the electoral campaign on behalf of the electorate.
It asked:
Whether they intend to implement political reforms which would empower the ordinary citizen.
Whether MLPN will provide the citizen with greater rights of recourse in the case of injustice.
Whether they intend to demonstrate how they will reduce public expenditure and bureaucracy.
Whether they will desist from engaging in irresponsible auction politics, and thereby subsidizing an ever greater culture of dependency.
Whether they could guarantee that they will not increase or introduce taxes to sustain all the “free” services that they have been promising.
Whether they are serious in introducing greater transparency and accountability not least when it comes to their own political parties.
Whether, if either one of them is in government next week they will demand that the government departments will make public all the outstanding debts owed to them by the said political parties, and whether these departments will apply the same laws and penalties that they apply against the ordinary citizen.
Whether they have concrete measures to tackle illegal immigration.
Whether, if either of them is in government next week, will they be abiding with every decision that is bound to emanate from the EU commission or the European Courts of Justice, like they have stated, that they will do in the case of spring hunting.
Whether they be abiding with every decision that is bound to emanate from the EU commission or the European Courts of Justice, even if possible future decisions might be unacceptable to the Maltese electorate or contrary to Malta’s National Interest such as decisions on divorce, the adoption of children by gay couples and the deportation of illegal immigrants.
AN also asked the parties why have they signed away more sovereign powers to the EU without consulting with the public and whether they will do so again in the future.
Whether they will amend and introduce tougher laws to combat crime and social irresponsibility.
Whether they will refrain from subsidizing trends that undermine the traditional family.
Whether they approve the decision to go ahead with the San Antnin recycling plant in Marsascala given that published documents show gross irregularities.
Whether the fish farms in Marsascala will be removed.
Whether they have any serious intention of reforming MEPA not least by once again separating the environmental protection arm from the development planning one.
Whether they will give Gozitans a greater role in the running of their island.
AN said it was evident that beyond the usual rhetoric and hype, neither of the two major parties was ready to address many of the issues which concern and effect the electorate.
