Since I have been mentioned on more than one occasion by Alfred Sant regarding my letter (February 8) on the reception class, I would like to make some clarifications.

I in no way indicated in my letter that I agree that an extra year should be added between kindergarten and Year 1.

I did not speak about a reception year but in favour of a reception programme and suggested that it could be integrated in the syllabus of the kindergarten years.

I repeat, let us not politicise this issue but let it be seriously discussed by all educational stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition between kindergarten and year one.
