Dutch support (1)
How sad ... how sad to read that even the Dutch Labour Party, PvdA, the Social Democratic Party I have voted for in many elections between the late 1970s and early 1990s with a red coloured pencil (one man, one vote!) and later via letter and last time...

Has its ill-informed "endorsement" (Dutch Labour Party Supports MLP, February 29) (it seems like an old-fashion rubber-stamp support to me) been discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance in the Dutch cabinet and political leader of the PvdA? I find that hard to believe; Alfred Sant is prehistoric compared to Wouter Bos and is miles away from what, for example, Wim Kok has done for The Netherlands and the European Union.
In 1997 I was sad to realise that the MLP was not as New and Modern as they pretended and in 2003/4 I was sick with their EU "policy". Now I can only hope - again - for a defeat of the MLP next week, so the real "renewal" can begin and Malta's Social Democrats can start building the modern, centre left and more liberal party that it needs and deserves. And maybe then we can start thinking about coalitions...
