Labour leader Alfred Sant's press conference at Salini yesterday was another "weak swipe" to dwarf the achievements by the current administration in the creation of recreational areas, the environment ministry said.

The area that Dr Sant commented negatively about saying it was muddy, was close to sea level.

This part will be seen to in the third phase of the restoration of the park at the Salini salt pans when it will be turned into marshland. For this phase, an application prepared by private partners and several NGOs has been filed with the EU programme LIFE+ for about €700,000 (Lm300,510).

The third phase involves the preservation of the natural habitat, the cultivation of plants that thrive in that environment as well as the setting up of a bird observatory, the ministry added.
