A meeting yesterday between the Health Division, the Office of the Prime Minister and the General Workers' Union on the pending issues of nursing aides, health assistants, care workers and assistant care workers was held only for the sake of being held, the union complained yesterday.

It was clear from the start that the government had no intention of reaching an agreement, said the union, on whose insistence the meeting was held. In fact, the GWU said, the government's position on premium allowances had changed only slightly since a February 4 meeting.

The government had chosen to discuss and reach an agreement on three requests - initially put forward by the GWU - with the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin, which represented only a minority of the workers in this case, it claimed.
