Sant deplores state of Kennedy Grove

A future Labour Government would ensure recreational areas such as the Kennedy Grove would be under a management focused to ensure such areas were well maintained, Labour leader Alfred Sant said today.

This would be done in conjunction with local councils, and NGOs which were willing to cooperate, he said.

Dr Sant said that while Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi on Sunday inaugurated an afforestation project at part of the zone, neglect reigned supreme at Kennedy Grove, and that had been the case for years.

In a reaction, the Environment Ministry said Dr Sant had held his press conference in an area of Kennedy Grove which will form part of the second phase of the rehabilitation project, the first phase of which was completed on Sunday. The ministry said it was always made clear that this project was divided into three phases. In the first phase, 11,000 trees were planted. The second phase will focus on the rehabilitation of Kennedy Grove including a new play area. The third phase will include the restoration of the salt pans.
