To a large degree the Maltese electorate no longer votes in a blindly bi-partisan manner. This was clearly seen in the EU referendum results when an overwhelming number of AD, PN and MLP voters showed their support for EU accession. This type of decision is commendable.
In the forthcoming election voters should also think in a positive and unbiased manner. Hard core MLP or PN voters are on the decline and more people are realising the need to be better represented. The vast majority will feel secure giving their number one preference to AD, PN or MLP while giving other preferences to candidates from the other parties. Everyone understands the need to exercise the right to vote more appropriately and so utilising the possibility of cross-party voting. We cannot afford to lose good, valuable human resources and valid public servants just because they are affiliated to a different party! On March 8 I will give my number one preference to AD and other preferences to candidates from different parties in order to strengthen Parliament through diversity enrichment.
