John Dacoutros and Sons Ltd re-entered the Maltese wine market early this year with the introduction of three new brands. Situated in the heart of the very aptly named Triq l-Għassara tà l-Għeneb (Wine pressers Street) in Marsa, the new Dacoutros Winery has been relaunched through a fourth generation, in which ironically, the 'sons' are conspicuous through their absence.
This time there are two women at the helm. Starting off their 125th anniversary celebrations, the family presented their first commemorative medal to President Eddie Fenech Adami at the Palace last week. The directors spoke about their family history, but discovered that the President was immensely well versed about the company, having previously visited their website www.dacoutros.com.
The commemorative medal features a picture of company founder Giovanni Dacoutros (1871-1955) and on the flip side a relief of his well known wine carrier the S/S Maria Dacoutros.
The three new wine brands are available in over 1,500 outlets in Malta and Gozo. Dacoutros intends to increase its range of high-quality wines to reach its new target.
