New Pembroke school foundation stone laid

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi yesterday laid the foundation stone of a primary school in Pembroke with the assistance of two little helpers.

A young girl and boy voluntarily reached out to help the Prime Minister symbolically hammer the stone in place during the ceremony for which Dr Gonzi's wife Kate and Education Minister Louis Galea were also present. The primary school, which falls under the jurisdiction of Saint Clara College, is the fifth school and the first primary school to be built by the funds from the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools.

Following an investment of €4.6 million (Lm1.97m), the school, to be completed next year, will host a maximum of 350 students with the potential of being extended. The modern two-storey building was specifically designed to make use of alternative energy.
