I love my surcharge
Following weeks of debate on the water and electricity surcharge, my wife and I dug out our utility bills for the past year.
We discovered that over a year we had paid a total of Lm68 (€158.44) in surcharge. So if the Labour Party were to be in power, we would have saved the grand sum of half that amount - €79.22 (Lm34), or €38.61 (Lm17) each!
In a frenzy of excitement on seeing this, we whipped out our FS3s for 2007 and, surprise, surprise, we calculated that a widening of the tax bands and a revision of the top rate of income tax would result in hundreds of euros in our pocket rather than in the taxman's coffers.
So please leave my surcharge alone.

Well done. It clearly shows that tal-Labour the environment is at the bottom of their agenda. I would much prefer to save on my direct income than on the surcharge and justifying waste and pollution. I totally agree with you Jonathan. Tal -labour are in panic and amateurs on such issues.

Effie Carbonaro: Have you worked out how much energy those bulbs would save? You could buy a few more and save even more. If everyone does that, then even more money remains in our economy because Malta will buy less oil. The benefits are not the cost of the light bulbs themselves.

Well done for your calculations Jonathan. That's what everyone should do and that's how we should all evaluate both party's electoral manifesto. We should not be blinded with what others tell us. God gave each one of us a brain .... we should use it to come to our own conclusions !!!
