Lessons animals teach us

St Joan Antide School, Gudja, recently organised a two-day long Pets' Day coinciding with the feast of St Antony the Abbot, during which pupils brought to school their pet dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, mice, birds, fish, turtles, various reptiles, and even a pony. The activity was a very positive experience where the school community assembled together, had fun, and learned a lot about care and respect for all living things.

In separate activities held to commemorate Holocaust Day the school organised a special assembly and screened the film Happy Feet, which tells the story of a penguin with a unusual talent, to make the children aware that it is acceptable to be different. The activities helped them learn to care for diversity and to accept others regardless of their culture, race, abilities, family backgrounds.
