Andrei Agius has extended his contract with Messina until June 2012, the Italian Serie B club announced on their website yesterday (www.mondomessina.it).

The Malta U-21 defender is currently on a season-long loan with Igea Virtus Barcellona but his sound performances for the Serie C2 team appear to have prompted Messina to tie up Agius for another four years.

Agius, who had a spell in Serbian football with FC Zemun before joining Messina a few years back, has established himself as a first-team regular with Sicilians Igea Virtus.

He has played 25 league games for Igea, currently 13th from 18 teams in Pool C of the Serie C2.

Igea have 30 points, one less than Catanzaro and Cisco Roma who have Maltese striker Daniel Bogdanovic on their books.
