Marsa CC commenced their touring season on Saturday with a reduced 25-over match against the HMS Westminster team.

Ronnie Sacco, winning the toss, elected to bowl first for the locals. Barnwell opened the batting for HMS Westminster and batted throughout the innings, ending on 91 runs not out.

He scored seven 4s and a 6. The visiting batsmen were all happy with the way Barnwell was doing his job and gave him the strike as much as possible.

The next high score was extras - 18 as the visitors totalled 133 runs.

For Marsa, the main wicket-takers were Tony Slater and Sam Dhandapani who took two wickets each. Nowell Khosla, Gordon Hewitt, Sunny Krishna and Chris Naudi all took a wicket each.

Westminster had a great start by seeing off Mark G. Sacco through the bowling of Wilcox. Joining Khosla at the crease was Mike Caruana.

This pair put on a match-winning partnership of 127 runs before Caruana retired. He scored 56, including two 4s, while Khosla was 45 runs not out.

Khosla and Caruana ran ten 3s and a 4 between them during the match with the outfield very slow after the morning rain. Marsa won the game.

Next Saturday, an Asian XI will take on The Rest in a friendly to prepare for the busy touring season.
