Sant celebrates birthday on the campaign trail

A Qormi supporter grabbed Alfred Sant's microphone last night to sing him Happy Birthday, drawing long applause. Dr Sant, who turns 60 today, had just finished a short address during a "coach of change" tour which also stopped at Siġġiewi and Luqa.

During his addresses, Dr Sant accused the Nationalist government of corruption and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi of being "a liar".

Dr Gonzi had "lied" on VAT on education, on planned payment for health services and the closure of the Junior Lyceums and on spring hunting.

He asked if patients who waited four years for an operation would have to pay for it.
