Airport prices
I have to disagree with a recent correspondent: The biggest rip-off is not on the price of a bottle of water. It is the price of a bottle of spirits in the so-called duty-free shop.
Arriving on an Emirates flight from Australia last month, I was charged €23.95 for a litre of vodka. This seemed too much to me but I was assured by the cashier that it was the price for an international passenger. It is also the price charged at local supermarkets!
Thus the duty-free shop offers the first rip-off to travellers arriving in Malta.

In my opinion, the biggest rip off in Malta is not the MIA but Mater Dei Hospital. How many of your readers have been nabbed by the high prices charged for a softdrink or food from the cafeteria? This contractor has no competition, since the nearest shops are at least one kilometer away. Is this fair trading? I wonder!
