A man from Luqa yesterday pleaded not guilty to assaulting his girlfriend and slightly injuring a policewoman when he resisted the police at the Valletta police station.

Stephen Pirotta, 37, also denied threatening the police, breaching the public peace, offending public morals while intoxicated, threatening his girlfriend and relapsing on Sunday at 3.30 p.m. in Floriana.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti granted Mr Pirotta bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000 (Lm429.30).

Police Inspector James Grech prosecuted and lawyer Anġlu Farrugia appeared for the defendant.
