Carmelo Brown of London asked in his letter why there was nothing in Malta to commemorate the Maltese naval and merchant marine seamen who perished during the two world wars. Until Malta became a republic, the monument in Floriana used to list the names of Maltese naval seamen who lost their lives in World War I, but for some reason their names have been removed. I would like the government to explain the reason for the removal of these names.

I agree with Mr Brown that a monument should be built to commemorate war victims who lost their lives to the sea. I urge whichever political party is victorious in the coming election to see that such a monument is built in their honour. The name of my uncle, who lost his life during World War I, was inscribed on the Floriana monument.
