A new retail outlet will be opening at Malta International Airport's non-Schengen area on May 1.

The MIA's CEO Julian Jaeger has signed an agreement with Travel Stores, the consortium that will be running the multi-service shop. This will be the second retail outlet in the new area dedicated to non-Schengen flights.

It was described as an innovative concept for the airport as it will incorporate five different product ranges - food and beverages, skincare, delicatessen, a bookshop and souvenirs.

The new commercial area will occupy 191metres squared of floor space and was awarded after a public call for tenders.

Travel Stores Co. Ltd is a consortium made up of Wands Limited, Salvo Grima Group, Miller Distributors and RJC Caterers Ltd, who individually operate similar activities at MIA.

The new non-Schengen area will be fully operational on March 28 when MIA is expected to adopt the Schengen procedures. It is envisaged that an additional two outlets will open later on this year.
