A loggerhead turtle was found dead floating in the middle of Mellieħa Bay on Saturday afternoon.

The 72cm turtle had a massive injury to its carapace, probably from a boat's propeller, Nature Trust said.

It was pulled ashore by the St Aloysius Scouts Group and Nature Trust's rescue unit promptly went on site to take measurements and photos.

On the same day, another loggerhead turtle was brought ashore by Nature Trust, this time alive. It was taken to the rehabilitation centre at San Luċjan for further medication since it had difficulty in swimming.

The rescue team would like to appeal for donations to help them buy transport boxes for turtles which have to be transferred to San Luċjan.

In case marine animals need assistance, the team can be contacted on 9942 2085/6.
