A new home for the elderly at Mellieha, called "Dar il-Madonna tal-Mellieha", will be opened by the Prime Minister next Saturday.

It will welcome its first residents on Monday, March 3, the Ministry of Health and Care of the Elderly said.

The ministry said this 7 million euro project is a partnership between the government and the private sector and will be completed within a year of the contract having been signed.

This, the ministry said, will be a state of the art facility for the elderly and people with special needs. An ambulance will also be stationed there during the summer.

An open weekend will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
