MLP's surcharge promise
Alfred Sant said that if he becomes Prime Minister he would halve the water and electricity surcharge for all families. Businesses have been promised a similar reduction in the form of tax credits.
Would Dr Sant guarantee that the quality of fuel remains the same and not revert to the harmful, inferior quality stuff we had to use many years back, and that the tariffs for water and electricity consumption and the meter rents remain the same?
Most important of all, will halving the surcharge for all households mean that the 30,000 families who are not paying the surcharge, will now have to pay?

Subsidies are illegal in EU. Few days ago a statement was issued to the Maltese government, that investigations might start, because we are not paying a full surchange, but part is being carried by enemalta which means a subsidy to enemalta
It is time that we stop acting like this, and start tackling problems seriously. Oil prices are a harsh reality we have to face. Either with Sant or Gonzi, or hopefully with one of them and AN candidate who can bring some business mentality into the government.

The problem with doing this is who is going to carry the cost , somebody will have to make up the surcharge as it is there for a reason
