Grade 9 students at San Anton School, L-Imselliet, recently presented €460 to Rita Allen and Maryrose Bugeja from Puttinu Cares - a children's cancer support group. The funds were gathered through a number of fund-raising activities that the students held in the previous weeks during their lunch break as part of their Personal and Social Development studies on community care.
The students gave up their free time to run cake sales, selling home-made pies, cookies and drinks and took the initiative to organise sponsored football and basketball tournaments.
While thanking the students for their generosity, Ms Allen, a nursing officer from Mater Dei Hospital's paediatric oncology ward said the money would be added to the funds that the charity is currently generating in a campaign to buy three apartments in Sutton, UK, that will ease the lives of the families whose children undergo treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
