New AFM fitness room named after deceased instructor

The Armed Forces of Malta inaugurated a new fitness room at Luqa Barracks, which was named after Sadia Mizzi, a former fitness instructor at the AFM gymnasium.

The inauguration coincided with the first anniversary of the death of Ms Mizzi, who died of cancer, aged 29.

The fitness room combines a complete set of first-class, heavy-duty weights machines with a section for free weights and an aerobic section boasting two standard Concept-2 rowing machines.

Attending the event was Parliamentary Secretary Tony Abela, Brigadier Carmel Vassallo, senior AFM officers, representatives of all AFM units and members of Ms Mizzi's family. Holy Mass preceded the short ceremony, celebrated by AFM chaplain Fr Lawrence Zammit.

After the inauguration, the AFM, through the HSBC Puttinu Cares Foundation, treated a number of children suffering from various forms of cancer, but currently in remission, to a day out at the AFM.

The children played indoor games in the staff canteen games' room, abseiled down a building, rode in a military vehicle and were also given a tour of the Grand Harbour on the AFM's patrol vessel Melita II.
