Unemployment sheds 845 in January

Unemployment in January fell by 845 to 6,463 persons when compared to the same month last year, the National Statistics Office said.

It said there were 5,724 registered unemployed in Malta and 739 in Gozo.

In the twelve months to January 2008, unemployment in Malta fell by 866 whereas in Gozo it rose by 21.

I have a most distinct feeling that quite a few unemployed persons have been removed from the unemployment registry to give the impression that unemployment has stopped rising.
