UK brewer S&N reports flat annual profit

Britain's biggest brewer, Scottish & Newcastle Plc, which has agreed to be taken over by Carlsberg and Heineken, said its pre-tax profit was unchanged last year.

The Edinburgh-based brewer reported last year's pre tax profit of £444 million, on sales up eight per cent at £4.15 billion.

Last month, Denmark's Carlsberg and Amsterdam-based Heineken agreed to buy S&N for 800 pence a share, or £7.8 billion in cash to carve up the brewer of Foster's, Kronenbourg and Newcastle Brown Ale.
