More than 200 police officers have joined the search for a nine-year-old girl who went missing after a swimming trip in West Yorkshire.
Shannon Matthews was last seen at the gates of West Moor Junior School in Dewsbury on Tuesday afternoon after returning from the trip. Police, neighbours and relatives searched for the missing girl through the night as temperatures plummeted.
"The family members are devastated," West Yorkshire Police's Chief Superintendent Barry South said. "My priority is locating Shannon safe and well."
Her uncle Neil Hyett said her family was extremely worried.
"We have been out looking everywhere throughout the night but there is no sign of her," he told the Yorkshire Post newspaper. "It was absolutely freezing. All the adults were so cold, so how cold would she be?"
Officers are investigating a sighting of the girl on playing fields behind the school at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday and are checking the routes she may have taken on the way home.
