The Armed Forces of Malta have inaugurated a new fitness room and are treating a number of children suffering from cancer to a day out today – the first anniversary of the death of a 29-year-old bombardier who fell victim to cancer.
Lance Bombardier Sadia Mizzi was an AFM fitness instructor and the epitome of physical fitness before she fell ill. She used to participate in a range of sports activities and is well remembered by the soldiers for her energy and her readiness to help.
The new Sadia Mizzi fitness room includes a set of first-class, heavy-duty weights machines with a section for free weights and an aerobic section boasting two standard Concept-2 rowing machines.
Present for the inauguration were Parliamentary Secretary Tony Abela, Brigadier Carmel Vassallo, senior officers and members of Sadia Mizzi’s family.
The AFM, through the HSBC 'Puttinu Cares' foundation is also treating a number of children suffering from various forms of cancer, but currently in remission, to a day out at the AFM. At Luqa Barracks, the children have been playing indoor games in the staff canteen games room, abseiled down a building and riding military vehicles. They will also be taken round Grand Harbour on an AFM launch.
