The Marine Software Engineering Cluster of Excellence Foundation (Marsec-XL Foundation) has launched a website dedicated its four units: the Marsec-XL cluster initiative office, the Marine Institute for Software Engineering at Malta; the Super-yacht Technology Expansion Centre; and the Marine Business Port.

"The website section describing applied research and collaboration project opportunities is very exciting. In only a few months of operation the number of opportunities has far exceeded what we could imagine for the start-up phase. Already eight different projects are in the initiation phase and as can be seen numerous other projects have been identified," foundation CEO Geir Fagerhus said.

The Marsec-XL Foundation sets out to shape the digital future of the yachting industry through the application of marine systems and software engineering, providing an innovation chain from applied research, education and training to business operations and technology transfer.

"Marsec-XL has identified a lacuna in the marine systems and software engineering aspects of yacht building, manifested in the lack of interoperability of the onboard ICT and electronic systems.

"This niche has extensive potential, and Malta presents the ideal location for its development, given its strong ICT orientation and maritime heritage," Mr Fagerhus said.
