English Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said yesterday he planned to consult the FA and FIFA about radical plans to host an extra game abroad.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has led opposition to plans from the top 20 English clubs to extend the season to 39 games from 38 including an international round in January.

"It's certainly not a dead duck," Scudamore said. "Clearly we are not going to take this forward if it doesn't meet with some form of acquiescence from FIFA.

"Certainly the FA and Football League will have to be comfortable with whatever move we take.

"We have got until January 2009 to shape any proposals, to consult widely and properly, and to see how we manage to move forward with what is now a global sporting phenomenon."
