Being a disabled person, I disagree with the proposal to transform St Luke's Hospital into units for disabled persons, as approved by the Malta Labour Party at its general conference.

It would be unfair to send us there when we get to a stage when nobody can take care of us. For me it would be like living in an institution.

Each disability is different from the other. The best thing would be to provide us with small homes in the heart of the community, which would allow all disabled persons to carry on with their own social lives.

Although things are changing slowly, there is a lot more to be done. I hope that something can be done in the near future so that disabled persons are able to live a better life.
