Magistrate Saviour Demicoli this morning reprimanded a man who is facing murder charges after he threw a note to his estranged wife as he entered the courtroom.
Martino Gatt, who stands accused of the murder of Louis Ellul in Pembroke on December 2, threw the note at Joanne Bajada as he was escorted into the hall for the continuation of the compilation of evidence.
Sergeant Antoine Fenech testified that the handwritten note, in Maltese, said: with all the love I had for my children, I left you alone to enjoy them and you had no respect for anyone, not even for the children. You put Ellul in a coffin and me in prison, and you ruined the children’s lives, you have the DNA of the devil.
Magistrate Demicoli warned Mr Gatt not to try to do the same thing again.
During the compilation of evidence, Inspector Carlo Ellul testified that when he arrived on the murder scene he saw the victim in a pool of blood and Ms Bugeja in a state of shock. She told him that before he left the scene, Mr Gatt told her that she had been the cause of all this.
A 14-year-old girl testified that she had heard the gunshots but went straight home, where she realised she had been hit by pellets. .
The owner of a car hire company said the accused had rented a car from him for two days, December 1 and 2.
Mr Gatt, 59, is pleading not guilty to murder and to slightly injuring the 14-year-old girl.
