Bosingwa: Porto defender Jose Bosingwa is recovering from muscle pain but will miss tomorrow's Champions League last 16 first leg match at Schalke 04. The defender picked up the injury in Portugal's friendly international with Italy a week ago. His place is expected to be taken by Uruguayan Jorge Fucile. Porto, who beat Maritimo 3-0 away on Friday, top the Portuguese Premier League standings with 47 points from 19 matches.
Kalac: Milan face a possible goalkeeping crisis for Wednesday's Champions League last 16 first leg at Arsenal after Zeljko Kalac suffered a dislocated finger in training. Dida, who has lost his first team place to the Australian, is also a doubt after injuring his back while sitting on the bench in Milan's 0-0 draw at Parma on Saturday. Third choice keeper Valerio Fiori last made an appearance for Milan in the 2003/04 season.
Lyon pressure: Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas put the pressure on coach Alain Perrin and his players yesterday, three days before the French champions welcome Manchester United in the Champions League. "I spoke to the players and to the staff this morning," said Aulas, whose team go into Wednesday's first leg of their first knockout round tie after a 1-0 Ligue 1 defeat at Le Mans on Saturday. "I felt I needed to point out a few things. When you have excellent players and a competent staff, you need good results."
Overseas plan: Reading chairman John Madejski said yesterday proposals to play extra Premier League matches abroad had "already been consigned to the trash bin". Madejski told BBC radio that Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore should have consulted more widely before announcing plans to extend the season from 38 to 39 games with an international round of fixtures in January. "If he had approached some of the governing bodies before announcing his plans, we would have moved forward on it. Now it's in tatters," Madejski said.
