Man held after cocaine find

The police are holding a 19-year-old man from Żebbuġ after he was allegedly found in possession of cocaine at his hometown on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned shortly to face drug trafficking charges, the police said.

As the police Drug Squad suspected that the man was allegedly dealing in drugs and that drugs were being kept at his garage, the police kept the premises under surveillance. On Saturday afternoon, Drug Squad officers followed the man who was driving a car and when they stopped him they allegedly found a number of sachets containing cocaine in the vehicle.

It is thought that the sachets were ready to be trafficked.

A search inside the garage produced various items associated with drug trafficking, the police said.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke was informed about the find and appointed a number of court experts to help in an inquiry.

Police investigations continue.
