The 2008 European Eight-Ball Championships will be played at the Dolman Hotel, Bugibba, between today and next Friday.

More than 250 players from nine countries - Malta, England, Channel Islands, Belgium, Northern Ireland, Wales, France, Scotland and Republic of Ireland, will be taking part in the five categories in competition, men's A and B, women, U-21s and U-18s.

Maltese teams will figure in all five tournaments besides the individual competitions which will be played during the week as well.

Three local cueists will also take part in a competition for players on wheelchairs. These are: Joe Cardona, Brian Borg and Ronald Galea.

The preliminary round from the women's competition, scheduled for today, heralds the start of the championships.
