Five men were arrested this afternoon when the police disrupted thefts taking place in Tarxien and Mosta.

In the first case, the police were informed at about 2 p.m. that some persons were stealing from a construction site in Dejma Street, Tarxien.

Policemen who went on site found three men loading material from the site onto a van. Tools and other material from the construction site were found in the van. The three men, aged 17-36 were immediately arrested.

The second case happened at around 4.30 p.m. in Tower Street, Mosta, when an individual noted a man stealing from a parked car.

The man tried to escape upon being noticed, but traffic and district policemen who were in the area gave chase and caught him.

Investigations showed that the man had stolen a wallet and a radio from the car. A second man was arrested in connection with this case a short time after.

The two men are also being investigated in relation to a number of other thefts from cars.
