Baseball, softball and basketball are some of the many disciplines in which Skolasport offers training sessions at beginner and intermediate levels every Saturday morning between 9 and 10.30 at the Marsa sports complex.
"Baseball and softball are non-contact sports that require hand and eye co-ordination. Speed and distance are crucial elements for a player to decide upon and handle the various game situations according to one's experience and ability," explained coach Patrick Pace. Baseball and softball training participants are taught the fundamentals of the sport, followed by strategic thinking of how to play one's best bat. Apart from learning the actual techniques and skills, the training also fortifies participants' endurance and confidence and teaches them to face challenges and failure positively.
Those opting for basketball training are taught the fundamentals of basketball, including passing, dribbling and shooting, by coach Fiona Schembri, assisted by Samantha Tabone.
Participants are split into smaller groups according to age and ability. Advanced basketball players work on more intriguing and creative work. All sessions are rounded off with game time which offers the players an opportunity to apply and strengthen their technique and experience.
Skolasport sessions organised by Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and are being sponsored by Kellogg's for the ninth consecutive year.
