Now that the dual circulation period is over, I am not able to spend the Maltese lira I have left over, am I stuck with it now?

No. Indeed, the Maltese lira notes and coins cannot be used to purchase items and services, but the commercial bank branches will continue to exchange Maltese lira for euro (at no charge) right up until the end of March 2008. After March, the Central Bank of Malta will offer the same exchange facility (i.e. free of any charges), for the exchange of Lm notes (for 10 years) and coins (for twoyears).
